The Capital Hotel – Lunar Tides

For Chelsea in Bloom 2026, Contract Flowers® designed, fabricated and installed Lunar Tides, a suspended sculptural floral installation created for The Capital Hotel in Knightsbridge. Inspired by the 2026 theme Out of This World, the installation explored the gravitational relationship between the moon and the sea through movement, texture, light and negative space.

Positioned above the hotel entrance, a large orbital crescent form traced a near-complete circle around the façade, creating the illusion of a suspended celestial structure floating above the doorway. Integrated lighting created a subtle internal glow throughout the evenings, adding atmosphere and enhancing the immersive quality of the installation after dark.

The concept drew inspiration from the rhythm of the tides and the seafood-led dining experience at The Capital, while also reflecting the wider experience of hospitality, travel and gathering. At its centre, the installation framed the entrance of the hotel itself, symbolising a place that quietly draws people, stories and journeys inward.

Constructed using a natural willow and birch framework, the installation featured a restrained palette of seasonal materials including allium, lilac statice, ornamental grasses, lunaria, moss and dried botanical elements. The combination of fresh and dried materials created movement, softness and durability throughout the Chelsea in Bloom event period.
